Solo Cornet:Becca Downs

Started Playing : Aged 9, I had been asking for flute lessons for 3 years, but my parents wouldn't let me take it up, as they said I could hide behind it and play quietly.  When my local band (Morecambe Band) where offering Saturday morning music lessons,my parents let me try them.  Dad, being a cornet player, was most encouraging.

Previous Bands : Morecambe Brass Band Association (includes Morecambe Youth Band, Morecambe Brass Ensemble and Morecambe Band), Fulham Brass Band, Tyldesley Band.

Memorable Banding Moments :

1. Being asked if I owned an Arban and replying "What is an Arban" (yes, it did yield numerous filthy looks from around the band!)

2. School Band tours to Germany (2000) and Poland (2002 - for many reasons!

3. Being told to pretend that Bernard (the youth band conductor at the time) was stuck inside my cornet and I was trying to blow him out (of the cornet......) - this was an attempt to get me to play louder (yes, people have been trying for years!!)

Favorite Piece :Vaughan Williams - English Folk Song Suite
