Bass Trombone: Ken Bumby

Started playing: Ken started playing age 10 at Salford Central Methodist Band on baritone. He then joined Windsor Band under Jack Clayton, but as they already had baritone players, he was asked to learn Bass trombone.
Previous bands: Salford Central Mathodist Band, Windsor Band, Eccles, Golborne
Memorable Banding moments: Playing under Sir Harry Mortimer in the 1970's, and being tutored by Derek Southcock, Winning 4th Section at Free Trade Hall with Windsor Band, and Wilkinsons with Eccles in his first contest for over 20 years in 2006. Walking into Old Hall's bandroom and being made to feel welcome from the start.
Favourite piece: Scheherazade (made for trombones!), Dem Bones, Dimensions, Branwyn. Ken is a lover of marches, and counts The Contestor and Revenswood as other favorites.
More about: Married to Elaine for 20 years, with 6 children and 7 Grandchildren. Ken is a Local Government Officer for Salford Council working with people who suffer with physical and sensory disabilities. He has a BA (Hons) degree in Visual Arts, and is a keen photographer and painter.
