Kit / Percussion

Started playing: January 2000. Asked to help out on Timps by my brother John (Euphonium) in the Area Contest for that year. The fact that we were in the Cavern Club in Liverpool and had imbibed of much ale that afternoon was an obvious factor in my reply.

Previous bands: None

Memorable Banding moments: Royal Albert Hall, National Finals 2000, Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London (November 2000).  Brassed Off at Southport Little Theatre February 2007 (hard work, but thoroughly enjoyable!)

Favourite piece:  Finlandia, Laudate Dominum.

More about:  Although I have never played a brass instrument in my life (too much blowing and stuff for me), I do have a musical background. I started piano lessons at the age of 5 and had attained the level of AVCM (Associate of the Victoria College of Music) by the time I was 16. I had also played side drum for 1st Bryn Boys Brigade since the age of 11 and I am still actively involved in that. I also play guitar.

I work as Information Manager for Chorley Council, and follow Wigan RLFC. Married to Deb (band secretary), with 2 children, Luke and Ben

Percussion / Timpani

Started Playing : Cornet aged 11 in Old Hall Community Band.  Moved onto percussion on 2001 to avoid having to practice.

Previous Bands :  Deanery School Band, Old Hall, Yorkshire Co-op, various non-brass.

Memorable Moments :  Playing at Old Trafford with Co-op - I only had to hit a bass drum a few times (in Jerusalem) but it's pretty cool to be in the middle of 70,000+ people!

Favourite Piece :  To play: Year of the Dragon (Sparke), Chaucer's Tunes (Michael Ball), anything with decent percussion really, Most Film / Show music. To listen to - Deep inside the Sacred Temple

More About : Having gained a degree in Computer Animation & Special Effects, I currently work in a large high school as an ICT Technician, trying my best to avoid being uncovered as someone who knows next to nothing about networks... My spare time is spent mostly sitting, be it watching TV / films, 'playing' the piano, or eating. See my wonderfully under-updated website for more: www.beneal.co.uk
